If your DNS is the same company that you are moving away from and you're not hosting your website with them, then it's possible that they won't continue your DNS and your nameservers will change to the default nameservers of the company you are moving to. Two different sites report their .com price at $20.17 now (you don't find that out until you're well into the registration process, disgusting). I do agree that they are probably good for bulk users. WHMCS has a very good deal with Enom, $10.59 for .com. They charge some for credit card/paypal but you can also send them a check for no surcharge. Bad news is Enom is still charging for whois protection.
