Good luck. Here are my answers.
-UPS is uninterruptible power supply. It's kinda like a jacked-up surge
protector with a battery inside. There are many different sizes. These make
sure your system stays on during power outages and brownouts.
-As a NAS runs its own operating system, it also comes with its own
security vulnerabilities. It doesn't matter as much if you have it
completely contained in your home network, but it matters a lot when you
have it set up so you can access it from outside your network.
-With spinning platter hard drives (the cheaper old-school drives), the
size does affect the reliability as bigger ones spin slowly, leading to
less wear and tear, but these consume a lot of electricity. With new SSD,
solid-state drives, the size doesn't matter as much. These are extremely
reliable, have no moving parts, and consumes much less power. Of course,
you pay for that.
