[Hidden-tech] GoNetSpeed vs Xfinity/Comcast?

We switched to GoNetSpeed from Comcast last October, and have been
extremely pleased.

   - Cost: At that time there was an early-adopter promotion in Amherst, so
installation for us was free, including a router (semi-decent) to keep, a
   $100 rebate, and a first-year rate of $69.95, for 1Gbit. I don't know what
it is now. Unlike Comcast where every month some new charge would be added,
there have been no increases or upcharges of any kind.

   - Support: GoNetSpeed support has been good to excellent depending on
the day. Because of my own doings I had some troubles for over a month
earlier this year, and their support worked with me multiple times,
replacing all hardware for free (including the line to our house),
eventually escalating my issue to their engineering team who were able to
pinpoint the problem within my own network.

   - Connectivity: The day after I switched we had no internet for several
hours, and I despaired (greatly!), but over the past near-year there have
been extremely few glitches, fewer or comparable to Comcast. They have no
statistics available on their website, unfortunately.

   - Watching TV: We plugged in a roku stick to the back of the TV,
connected it to the WiFi, a $40 one-time cost. Through there we watch the
services we have signed up for (Netflix, Apple+, others have listed other
choices). These will not get you live TV, so we also signed up for
YoutubeTV for CNN/MSNBC/The Daily Show, NewsMax (haha) and whatnot. There
are competitors (e.g. Sling), all with their own selection of channels.
With YoutubeTV you can record any or all programs very conveniently to your
hearts content, and view later, fast-forward through ads and whatnot.
Drawback: it's pricey at ~$75 after an introductory few months free
trial. There are cheaper ones, but I saw none with the channels we wanted.
Still, at a combined fixed cost of ~$150/month less than we paid for cable.

   - FWIW, I switched out the router from GoNetSpeed for a Google Nest
mesh. I have been largely pleased with that choice as well. Happy to
   discuss.
