[Hidden-tech] Social Media for HT

Having pulled myself out of the tentacles of Facebook so it's no longer
a daily (or multiple times a day) habit, it's very unlikely I will ever
go there to catch up. The interface isn't very conducive to threads or
searches, and the ads -- the ADS -- and the tracking. I just can't do it.

Community sites like Disqus, Diaspora, Friendica, (or even my own
platform <http://www.montaguema.net/>) etc., are ok, as long as there's
an email component, which is still the #1 "killer app."

For me, I filter all incoming emails into various folders. All emails
"From:" hidden-tech.net or with the "Subject" of [Hidden-tech] get moved
to lists/HiddenTech in my email program (Thunderbird) and it's easy to
search, sort, etc. I don't have to do anything other than go to that
folder and delete any emails I don't care about (looking at the subject)
and read the rest.

In any event, moving from an email-based community to a web platform of
any kind will risk losing a high percentage of your members, unless
you're able to export/import them. Can't do that with FB or Google
platforms. Maybe with the community sites... but how many will go with
the transition? Like I said... email is king.

Is it broke?

Mik
