<p><font face="Calibri">Having pulled myself out of the tentacles of
Facebook so it's no longer a daily (or multiple times a day)
habit, it's very unlikely I will ever go there to catch up. The
interface isn't very conducive to threads or searches, and the
ads -- the ADS -- and the tracking. I just can't do it.</font></p>
<p><font face="Calibri">Community sites like Disqus, Diaspora,
Friendica, (or even <a moz-do-not-send="true"

are ok, as long as there's an email component, which is still
the #1 "killer app."</font></p>
<p><font face="Calibri">For me, I filter all incoming emails into
various folders. All emails "From:" hidden-tech.net or with the
"Subject" of [Hidden-tech] get moved to lists/HiddenTech in my
email program (Thunderbird) and it's easy to search, sort, etc.
I don't have to do anything other than go to that folder and
delete any emails I don't care about (looking at the subject)
and read the rest.</font></p>
<p><font face="Calibri">In any event, moving from an email-based
community to a web platform of any kind will risk losing a high
percentage of your members, unless you're able to export/import
them. Can't do that with FB or Google platforms. Maybe with the
community sites... but how many will go with the transition?
Like I said... email is king.<br>

<p>Time for another review of how HT works for you each.<br>
<br>
A long discussion always leads to people dropping off, many of
whom forget this defeats the purpose of having more people to
help, at the cost of a few uninteresting emails. We tried FB
and Linkedin a while back, while little interest, given how
time goes it could be 10 years.<br>
We also get few additional members so there are clearly not much
PR happening.</p>
<p>What you may not know, here is a summary of members.<br>
Invalid: 2429 (means email addresses that bounced)<br>
No mail: 501 (members who dropped off)<br>
Valid: 2429<br>
</p>
<p>Personally I'm not in favor of FB although we do own <a

(it is currently hidden)<br>
</p>
<p>I have been looking for alternatives and found a quite a number
of options:<br>
This is one of the more interesting because it will run on a
standard apache/php server : <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://friendi.ca/">https://friendi.ca/<br>
</a><br>
There are more here: <a

moz-do-not-send="true">http://www.hidden-tech.net/social-media-ideas/</a><a
href="https://friendi.ca/" moz-do-not-send="true"><br>
</a><br>
I am wondering how many would use any of these.<br>
Let start with the general idea and we can narrow to options if
there is interest.<br>
