Hi Fred,

There are actually some solutions for this.  I set up one for a client
maybe 15 years ago which allowed him to control access to documents even
after they were distributed.

The way this works is that you set up an authentication service on the
internet, and when someone tries to open the PDF, it checks in to make sure
they're still allowed access.  You can essentially make up their own rules
for this.  My old clients used this for distributing very expensive
industry reports for subscribed users, but the underlying theory is the
same.

I'm pretty sure the software we used was FileOpen (fileopen.com).  There
may be some other solutions out there, but I'm not familiar with them...
this isn't something I've looked at in a long time.
