Hi, Sorry to join the conversation late. I actually have an older (around 2018) Synology DS416Slim I am trying to sell for $175. It can fit four 2.5" disks, but not full-size 3.5" disks. It is actually work maintaining a NAS as you need to run updates and have it be in a stable secure location, ideally with UPS. That's something for you to think about. I decided to sell it and go with simpler cloud and the good-old USB external drives for backups. The machine's pretty compact. It won't have the warranty as it is not transferable. Synology basically wants you to buy it new from them. I also have two Hitachi 1-TB disks I used with the machine I am trying to sell for $35 each ( https://www.newegg.com/hgst-travelstar-7k1000-1tb-hts721010a9e630/p/N82E16822145881?Item=N82E16822145881) Let me know if you are interested in buying the items. -Nathan nchung111 at gmail.com On Tue, Feb 25, 2020 at 9:27 PM explodingbee . via Hidden-discuss < hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net> wrote: > Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about a data storage system. > Here are some comments in response: > > Roy: I am open to using FreeNAS and ZFS.
