There is a setting, at least with Mailman >= 2.1.16, where the From: header is hacked to be something like '"Personal Name via List Name <list-name at list-domain>' and the Reply-To: header containing the poster's name and address. Reply-All goes to all of From:+To:+Cc:, and Reply-to-Sender goes to the Reply-To: address. This allows off-list replies with out having to "manually" hack the To: header (eg copying-and-pasting the address from elsewhere in the message, like the sig or something). That is how I have set up the lists at Deepwoods Software (mailman.deepsoft.com) and I set this up some time ago, since having the From: be something other than the list is a failure for Yahoo and Microsoft based mail servers (Yahoo now serves aol.com and netscape.com, and Microsoft serves hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com). A list serve *cannot* now handle posts from these addressses without mangling the From: header -- Yahoo and Microsoft now reject messages with From: headers with their domains thst don't directly originate from their servers. Also this setting allows at the human readable part of the From: header to contain the *name* of the poster and not something "anonymous" like just the list name.
