My parents (who live in Maine) used to have HughesNet. I'm on Verizon DSL. I haven't done any tests to put actual numbers to this but my sense is that my Verizon DSL service is faster than what they got via HughesNet. Satellite Internet is also inherently more trouble-prone than DSL. After a snowstorm they either had to wait for the snow to melt off their dish or climb up and clean off the dish. Sometimes simply the stormy weather was enough to block the signal. So, my sense is that HughesNet is not a way for you to get faster service than Verizon DSL. But, local factors my play a role in the quality of your particular DSL service. Certainly HughesNet did work for my parents. But I don't know anyone who has chosen to use satellite Internet when DSL was available. Online reviews are almost universally terrible and you get the impression that they'd be worse if users could give it less than 1 star! BUT, we need faster access than Verizon DSL (to which I can't give much more than 1 star) and Shutesbury won't have fibre for another 18 months or so. So has anyone had a good experience with HughesNet? What IDE is best for PHP, similar to Dreamweaver, and has a good server sync capability? I've used Netbeans and liked its PHP debugging capabilities and considered if overall 'pretty good', but don't really want to install Java on my Windows 10, unless it's to get the best IDE. I have not tried PHPStorm. I've struggled through a few projects where I had to use Eclipse, and don't want to do that again. I'll do most real development with dual monitors, but need to do some travel updates on the tablet. Thanks for the help!
