Hi Ira,

It depends on a number of factors such as what applications run at start up, but the big game changer would be swapping out the hard disk for an SSD, which runs significantly faster and will decrease start up times, application load times, and the general sprightliness of the system.

I don’t know if you have the 21” or 27”, but here’s ifixit’s excellent guide on what’s involved in swapping the drive out:
