[Hidden-tech] how to speed up mid 2011 mac desktop running Sierra 10.12.3

Hello,

I have a mid 2011 mac desktop with 12 gb of ram, and less than half of the 500 gb of storage used, running Sierra 10.12.3 that runs fine, except takes FOREVER to get going when I restart.

What program might I run, or what else would you suggest I do, to clean up, speed up, etc?
