There is a newsletter from asktheheadhunter.com that has info on this
question.  The author give advice to people about the interview process and
feels strongly that you should not answer that question- 
especially in the early stages of a job discussion, and provides
answers that allow you to turn the question around.  What you
were paid previously should not determine your value to the company
in a new and different job.  Good luck!
