[Hidden-tech] How much would you pay me?

Good Morning LP,

I think there is allot of “depends” no matter what the resume says….

Is salary the only criteria?

For example, it used to be that “I want to make as much as I can” …. And I did.
Now, I may ask,
“What can I learn at this new position to grow my resume or experience?”
“Is there the ability to work remotely or from home?”
“How flexible is my work schedule? Can I work early mornings or weekends and have a week day off or is it strictly 9-5?”
“Are there benefits, and what are they?”
“Am I working as a Full-Timer, Direct Contractor, sub-contractor, 1099, W2, etc…..?”
“Do I want to just freelance and work for myself?”

“I was paid $58 000 (before tax) annually at my previous position, but I'm honestly not sure if it was a generous salary or if I was being shafted.”
Now, the only way I found to know this is do the following.
Search jobs on monster, indeed, look at the national salary ranges, search google, etc….
Find out who is hiring, what they are paying, how those position match up to your experience or what you are capable of doing.
Contact some headhunters, ask them, they should have an idea.
You need to ask yourself,
“What is my time worth?”
“what amount do I want to make that would make me not think about how much I am or I am not getting each day when I go to work. Knowing I am getting what “I” think I am worth.
“What is the least amount I can make to make it worth leaving the house every day?”

Okay region:
So where do you want to work?
Is your work the type of thing that allows working remotely from home?

Generally Speaking from highest paid to lowest paid Regions (there are acceptations)
New York City Area – highest paying, but the commute or live down there – (I did both)
Boston and surrounding Area – to me next highest paying, but I have found that the Hartford area pays about the same, but less expensive to commute to and closer, less traffic, etc…..
Hartford Area
Springfield Area – probably the lower paying amounts, but close to home.
Hilltowns – easy walk from home maybe or a bike ride on a nice day, less stress, laid back, but salary may not make you rich.

From looking at your resume, I suggestion is that you get a job anywhere for at least what you “need” to make. Get some more experience to add to your resume. This can be part-time, full-time, sub-contracting (I like this best for when you are starting out) or go knock on doors and startup your own thing. This all gives you an idea of what the market “really” is doing. As a contractor / sub-contractor (you work for a company that has a contract with the end client). These tend to be projects that last a short period of time (or longer), you get a feel for the company and the work they need done. It is opened ended, so you can leave whenever you find something else or they can let you go at any time. You may do a few of these to add to your resume. You might even try one locally, one out in Boston, etc… Then you can compare if the extra pay is worth the extra commute.

Hope this helps some?
Feel free to follow up with more questions if you have.

Thanks!

Subject: [Hidden-tech] how much would you pay me?

Hi All

A while ago I asked a question concerning what to charge as a freelancer and I got some great responses. Today I would like to ask a slightly different question. Although I am freelancing I'm also trying to get interviews for full time posts, and one of the favorite questions is, what are are your salary requirements?

This has always been a difficult question for me to answer generally, but being from another country is even more so now. I was paid $58 000 (before tax) annually at my previous position, but I'm honestly not sure if it was a generous salary or if I was being shafted.

My resume is here: http://portfolio.lplouw.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Digital-Marketing-Resume-2016.09.30.pdf

If you have a chance please could you glance at it and tell me what you, were you an HR manager, be willing to pay me as a digital marketing manager if you were hiring. Please mention what area (geographical) your estimation is based on.

Thanks

Sincerely
