I once had that problem with a PC laptop, and after no pros could figure it out, my step-son realized it was just dust around the fan and overheating. Not sure if that or any recent macbook even has a fan. It did happen to my 2009 MacBook pro too when it worked really hard and heated up, and I just put it on a platform with two little fans build in.

I recommend ForeverSave Lite (free I think) or pro for automatic saving of all docs you work on.

You can run apple diagnostics by holding down Option+D when you turn on the machine (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731 <https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731>) This is a basic diagnostic suite, but it does catch some simple problems and report the error codes so you have more info.

Sudden shutdowns/restarts on certain models (listed here: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/ <https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/>) are caused by video issues and covered under free repair through apple or authorized warranty provider (Yes Computers, Apple Store Holyoke, etc).
