The Center for Human Development (CHD) is seeking an experienced IT professional for a Network Engineer role.  Responsible for installing and maintaining computer communication networks at CHD, ensures networks are running smoothly, and upgrades network to provide maximum performance.  Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Network Engineer is charged with designing and implementing highly effective and safe network environments.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:


*        Configure, install, support and maintain data network hardware and software infrastructure according to best practices, including routers, switches, VPN concentrators, Wi-Fi controllers, and firewalls.


*        Overall design and architecture of fault-tolerant connectivity to server hardware and software infrastructure in conjunction with Systems Administrator.


*        Perform network security design and integration.


*        Monitor network usage, anticipate problems and suggest solutions


*        Manage email, spam, and virus protection.


*        Troubleshoot and restore network connectivity after service interruptions.


*        Undertake routine preventative measures and implement, maintain and monitor network security.

Work Environment:
CHD is a large social service agency serving Western Massachusetts and Connecticut with a wide range of social and behavioral health services.  As such, the Network Engineer must be able to liaise with all levels within the organization and communicate plans and project timelines.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Must be able to lift thirty pounds without discomfort.  Occasional weekend work as needed.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area and evening/weekend travel may be expected.

Qualifications:

Required Technical Competencies:  Intermediate technical expertise with 802.1q VLANs and working within industry best practices;  Understanding of 802.11G/N in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies; Experience maintaining an enterprise‐level infrastructure, including fiber optic and wireless using Cisco and HP technologies  including routers, controllers, SANs, point-to-point  links and access points; Expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy and Windows security within the X.200 OSI model; Intermediate understanding of firewall configuration and maintenance, experience with Fortinet FortiGate equipment preferred. Organizational skills including effective time management; Team oriented with a customer service focus.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or a relevant combination of education and experience.  At least 3-5 years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including: firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and monitoring applications. Familiarity with Office 365/Exchange Online desired.
