WeVideo is a freemium browser-based video editing platform that I've had some
success with in the past. Students can also record videos using Hangouts on Air
and editing with YouTube Editor.

Mac Quicktime, which comes with Macs free, has great screen capture video with
voice recording while one does stuff on the screen. Makes rather big files, but
another recent thread in Hidden-Tech broached compressing video files. I believe
Youtube does such compression well. Not sure if PCs have an equivalent free
software package.
