[Hidden-tech] Computer Crossroads- Do I buy a new laptop? Change to Macbook Air? Have one Custom built?

$500 sounds very high for a laptop drive unless you need a 1TB solid 
state drive. You can get a 1TB hard disk these days for less than $75.

What do you need the computer for? How much internal storage do you 
need? With USB 3.0 portable HDs dirt cheap, you really don't need huge 
internal storage in most situations. What size screen do you want?

If you are on Windows now and are not looking for some specific Mac 
programs not available for Windows, I would not suggest switching.

If the Macbook Air appeals mainly because of size and weight, I'd 
suggest looking at the new (2015) Dell XPS 13, which is even smaller and 
lighter with a bigger screen than the MB Air. It starts at $800.
