Do you mean you have 10.6.8 installed and want to upgrade to 10.9.4? You
can't possibly mean you want to *downgrade* from 10.9.4 to 10.6.8...

I'd try apple.com.

You might need to to visit each vendor (Microsoft, Intuit, Adobe, Mozilla,
etc.) to find out what versions of MacOSX their software works under.

*Generally* speaking, unless the software is really old or the upgrade is a
really major jump, there should not be problems, but it depends... One rule
of thumb is to look at release dates of the software and of the O/S version.
If the software was released after the O/S version you are upgrading to, you
should be OK.
