Hi Kalista,

It is definitely not a WP requirement; most WP sites do not have a "member's only" section at all. The theme or a plugin might be restricting access to registered users. It's most likely a plugin. You could try disabling them one at a time to find the culprit, then leave it off or adjust its settings. If it's not a plugin, you could try switching to a default theme, like "Twenty {Twelve, Thirteen…}", just temporarily, to see if that lowers the restrictions. If this is the case, some of the theme's code will need to be tweaked, or maybe there are theme options that can be changed.
