Some devices (many actually) do have their own 'hard' power switch.
When turned off, the device is disconnected from the power line. Most
plain lamps, simple radios (ones with only a manual power switch and no
clock, etc.), typical power tools, and many *simple* appliances (ones
without rechargable batteries, clocks, remote controls, embedded
microprocessors, etc.). These devices draw NO power when turned off,
even if plugged into a live outlet or even a live power strip.
