Note: there is no need to bother with the Dell laptop -- there is no
reason you can't connect the 'additional PC formatted 160 GB external
drive not being used' to the Mac. You probably don't even have to
reformat it, unless you want to.  MacOSX and Linux are both generally
happy to access 'PC' external (eg USB) hard drives, and if the drive is
never going to be connected to a MS-Windows machine, both MacOSX and
Linux will happily reformat it to some else.  It is only MS-Windows
that balks at non-MS-Windows formatted drives (eg HFS or Ext2/3/4).
