[Hidden-tech] configuring ALPS MD 1000 legacy thermal printer

Loved this printer when I had it running on my pre-XP PC. These still 
sell for over $200 on eBay. Someone offered me $350 a few years ago, but 
I keep wanting to resurrect this gem. The printer ribbons are available 
again, after many years of scarcity, so I want to try to use it once 
more but:

Mac drivers only written to support OS 10.3 at the latest. PC support 
only to Win ME.  Installed the Mac driver but don't know if it will work.

Parallel to USB Alps cable runs $100 online. Unsure if standard parallel 
to USB cable will work. I recollect that maybe it doesn't? May just 
order a STD parallell/USB cable online to see what happens.

Do you have expertise with Alps printers?

If I don't figure this out I'll just put it up for sale again. As I 
mentioned in my previous email, I need to clear out some office space!

PS: I think it has a SCSII interface but I only have a parallel cable.
