HI David,

Dragon *will not do* what you have described *unless *the audio file was
created with Dragon transcription in mind.
Dragon is utterance based rather than word based like the technology in cars
and automated telephone operator systems.

*It recognizes one voice that follows the guidelines for dictation;

   1. Long utterances (10 words or more for best accuracy)
      1. It knows word forms based on the context given by 5 words before
      and 5 words after every word. i.e. bear or bare
      2. Spoken by same voice trained in the users profile. You can have
   multiple profiles.
   3. Clearly articulated, including punctuation commands (for best
   results).
   1. It will auto punctuate but only when spoken properly with pauses only
      where sentences end.


To transcribe successfully you'd also need to have followed these
guidelines:

   1. One voice (no groups) that is the voice the specific Dragon profile
   has been trained to recognize.
   2. Recorded with a device that produces audio files that are compatible
   with Dragon. (proper File type and audio bandwidth)
   3. No background noise. A noise cancelling mic that is on the compatible
   hardware list is highly recommended.


*My advice is don't buy it for the reason you have stated.   *

I've been a Dragon user for for 10 plus years and can't live without it!
Half the people who try Dragon end up disappointed simply because they
expected something from Dragon that it isn't at all meant to do. This is
quite tragic given the productivity boost it represents for certain people
when used properly.
