[Hidden-tech] alternatives to Ning

I've used Ning and found it to work just fine, however it is no longer free.

Free options that I've used and have worked nicely are:
Mixxt http://mixxt.com/
Your Olive Branch (YOBO) http://yourolivebranch.org/fp/
and
Trunity http://www.trunity.net/

Really the choice you and your client make will end up depending on *what
you need it to do.*  For example I liked the functionality of mixxt, the
'look' of trunity, the news and other features on YOBO.
