[Hidden-tech] GAW internet

I just looked under "How it works." Not much there. I suspect they are
using a cell phone network. Why?

For their own network they need an FCC assigned band or need to "buy" some
frequency band, for use restricted to this "service area" at an FCC
auction. This costs astronomical bucks.

The last nationwide sale of frequencies brought it $19.6B to the treasury.
Admittedly, the value of frequency space in the valley is a whale of a lot
less.

Next they have to build out a radio infrastructure. They claim they use
existing towers, but that's only a fraction of the infrastructure.

So much easier to use unused cell phone time slots, frequency slots, &
infrastructure. I suspect this is what they are doing.

The issue users might have are:

Availability (Cell frequencies and time slots can get filled),

Signal level in your favorite location (I might want to use the computer in
the living room, not next to the microwave in the kitchen, as works at a
friend's place in Hatfield),

Too many users in the future.

On the other hand this service might be great for the valley. A bit pricey,
tho.

How's the Mass program coming to provide high speed internet service in the
Hill Towns?
