Are these E-Mails actually addressed to "tom.adams at gmail.com" or are they addressed to "tomadams at gmail.com"? That is, are the senders making a mistake and forgetting the period? If the latter, it is a sender error and not Google's problem. If the E-Mails are indeed properly addressed to the *other* Tom Adams, then Google has a *real* problem, that they need to fix. Check the *full* headers to be sure. > > 2) I just received the following email from gmail. never received anything > like it before and I'm rather dubious of its authenticity - any thoughts: > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: Gmail <desk at gmail.com> > Date: Fri, Feb 4, 2011 at 7:32 AM > Subject: Account Update > To: > Due to anonymous registration of our email service, We have detected that > your account information on our database system are out of date, as a result > of that we require you to verify your account Information by filling the > details as requested below. Carefully check the 'Received ...' headers, as these headers will indicate if the E-Mail really came from Google or from someplace else (like Russia or Nigeria or ...). This *looks* like some kind of phishing scam. > > > - thanks for any of you feedback When dealing with E-Mail problems, one important tool is to enable the full headers. The From:, To:, etc. headers are often uninformative (their contents can be eaisly spoofed and are not really used for delivering E-Mail). There are other headers, which for most people would contain a lot of geeky gobbledy gook, but which can be very valuable in diagonsing E-Mail problems. > > *Regards, * > > > *Tom Adams* > > *413.575.9707* > > *Williamsburg, MA* > > *Director/Owner* > > *Reelife Productions* <https://mail.google.com/mail/goog_2146952357>* > website* <http://www.reelifeproductions.com/> > > *o cool digital media stuff o using technology to educate, entertain & > enlighten since 1996 o* > > *Reelife Facebook Page * <http://www.facebook.com/reelife> > > *Reelife's Youtube Channel* <http://www.youtube.com/reelife> > > *Folktography by Tom website* <http://www.folktographybytom.com/> > > *Folktography by Tom Facebook Page* <http://www.facebook.com/folkography> > > *Tom's LinkedIn Page* <http://www.linkedin.com/in/tomadams2> > > *Tom's other Links <http://web.me.com/ReelifeProductions>* > MIME-Version: 1.0 > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members > > -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods Software -- http://www.deepsoft.com/ () ascii ribbon campaign -- against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org -- against proprietary attachments
