Greta:

Giving that your business is two weeks old, I suggest that you look for a simple, powerful, cost-effective solution that can grow with you.

While ACCESS is "free" and a relational database, I submit that you have better choices.

Investigate FileMaker Pro(FMP). It is the #1 work-group platform on Mac and Windows world-wide. It is designed for exactly what you are doing and there are thousands of businesses like yours already using it.

Having just returned from the FileMaker Developer conference in San Diego, I am pretty high on FMP as a future platform for small business. Unlike ACCESS, FileMaker is cross-platform, is both client and server instantly, has instant web/browser availability, and has iPad and iPhone versions. You may or may not have thought about mobile access yet, but In 15 months the iPad has become THE platform for mobility world-wide. 16% of US households now own an iPad. With FileMaker Go, you do not need to code mobile apps, they just work with normal FileMaker files. There has been a world-wide explosion of iPad/FileMaker Go apps for retail businesses, restaurants, delivery companies, travel companies etc.

What you are seeking - a basic business CRM - has been build 100(1000) times already and is available for prices ranging from free to 100 to 1000 dollars. My bet is that a free template would be more than you need for the next 2-3 years. There is no need to engage a developer to help you build a stapler. Go download a free one.

Disclaimer: We work in FMP and have for 2 decades, but we do not do individual custom work. There are, however, lots of great folk in the valley here that do - in addition to the thousands and thousands of FMP developers country and world-wide.

As long as you are starting fresh, you might look at something with more modern features. Happy to give you some local references.

Best
Kevin
