[Hidden-tech] Charter... it is as bad as you all said

Jason,

In Massachusetts we are one of the very very lucky states in that the cables
companies do not negotiate with the state, but with municipalities and
townships.
Having said that, it's unlikely Comcast would be interested in building out
into Easthampton to provide services, nor would it make sense for them to
rent Charter's lines.
If Western Mass communities were larger then we might attract more build out
from cable providers.
As mentioned before, Wired West and the MBI are looking to build out middle
mile and last mile fiber infrastructure in Western Mass.
This would potentially attract a n umber of providers to the area.
Unfortunately, Charter has been in the throes of bankruptcy, then out of of
bankruptcy, and barely holding on for some time.
Comcast would likely have bought them out, but there are laws regarding
market ownership that prevented them from doing so.
