Thanks, Chris. We already use Amanda, but from the Zmanda website it seemed to me that we were blocked from using the low-cost ($5/mo + $0.20/GB transferred) Zmanda Cloud Backup (ZCB) service, which is intended solely for Windows Server. Instead, for traditional users they say that Amazon S3 Storage Option is required for backing up data to Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3). Subscriptions to Amanda Enterprise Backup Server ($300-$750/yr) and Zmanda Backup to Amazon S3 Option ($250-$750/yr) are required. Additional Zmanda Clients ($100-$375/client/yr) or Zmanda Agents are required for each system, database or application protected by Amanda Enterprise. You will also need to purchase an Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) certificate by signing up for the S3 Service. Whew! If there's a way to get nonprejudicial access to ZCB-like services and pricing, I'd love to hear about it. -- Roger Williams <roger at qux.com> Chief Technical Officer, Qux Corporation 433 West Street, Suite 8, Amherst, MA 01002, USA Tel +1 413 253-6400 * Fax +1 508 302-0230 * GSM +1 508 287-1420
