[Hidden-tech] New security software

Hi Ed,

We use avast! on our network of XP Pro and Win 7 Pro machines, running AVG as a second line of defense. The two seem to "play together" well. The free avast! product is pretty powerful and thorough. Some people might find its frequent updates throughout the day to be a bit obtrusive (actually, its last update today was a whole 7 hours ago!), but that is an indication of how up-to-the-minute it is in maintaining its definitions. (There are currently 2,789,281.)

You may also want to look into the full suite of free PC protection products from Comodo. We are partnered with Comodo for SSL and PCI compliance monitoring services. If we weren't happy with our current protection, the Comodo products would probably be the next line that we would investigate.

Don't listen to the Mac nonsense disguised as helpful "advice".

Folks,

In all its wisdom, Microsoft is ending support of its Microsoft Live OneCare anti-virus anti-everything software. I've already converted to my old standby, F-Secure; however, it is dreadfully slow, and slows-down my computer. What are other HTers using/recommending for XP? I know, I know: a Mac. But serioiusly, for anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-adware, etc. on the XP platform, what are you using?

Thanks,
Ed
