Lynne,

There are many many options out there and like any website project I 
always encourage folks to think more about goals of the project and then 
plan functionality and then look at costs and then choose and implement. 
  I've seen far too many projects fail because they skip these first two 
points and jump right to the last two (only to find they need to revisit 
the first two when it is too late).

It should really be less about what the designer or developer "likes" 
and what will meet the goals and have the functionality of what the 
client "needs".
