I bought an iPad to replace my aging laptop. It seems like it would 
be a fairly comfortable e-reader (resolution is fabulous and it does 
support color) plus it has many other capabilities.

OK, I can hear you thinking "he's lost his marbles, that's no 
laptop). I also bought a lightweight full-size keyboard, without 
which it would be useless for this fat-fingered speed typist. And 
yes, there are tradeoffs--but I used a Handspring Visor for years, 
and this is vastly superior.
