Another significant choice, Jamie -

For a well integrated video editor with audio software app inside or
outside (step-down from Sony's equivalent to Final Cut Studio/
Soundtrack/DVD Studio Pro to iMovie/GarageBand/iDVD) are Sony's
VideoForge/Sound Forge/DVD Architect down to Vegas Video Studio/
SoundStudio.

The latter two are integrated together when you purchase Video Studio
online (in other words, you get Sound Studio free - as well as a pack
of 3-D transitions and a large sound f/x library. I hate to say it
as a Final Cut Studio/iMovie HD fan for a long time - but Video
Studio gives the entry-level editor much, much more control over
sound (including 5:1), compositing and variable transparency of
layers, with colour-correction... than can likely ever be achieved
with iMovie HD.

Compare with the Adobe product line and see what you think. $115
MSRP Platinum Pro Pack - Vegas Movie Studio 9.

It will run on as slow as an 800 MHz processor with a quarter-gig of
RAM, although they are recommending 2 GHz as optimum with a half-gig
RAM or more. Windows XP (SP2), Vista or 7 compatible. No bloat.
