Another issue is where you plan to use a T-Mobile phone. Not everywhere in
the Valley, and not at all in some hilltowns.
I have a T-Mobile phone and battle with the problem.

T-Mobile and AT&T use different 3G frequencies. As a result the G1 will
work on AT&T but will _not_ do 3G (high speed data).
There is another Google Android phone about to be released in January
that will work on AT&T's 3G network, but not T-Mobile's. It's the Kogan
Agora

This phone is sold unlocked so you wont have to bother with that part.
