I'm helping an old friend spread the word about this organization's search for its first Executive Director. Sounds like a great opportunity, and I'm betting some Hidden Techies have contacts who would be interested in it. I don't know any more than this. My friend's contact info is at the end of the posting; she can provide additional detail. Thanks. Dan Kirsch Executive Director for the Maranyundo Initiative The Maranyundo Initiative, a Boston-based non-profit organization partnering with leaders in Rwanda to enrich and improve education for girls in Rwanda, seeks a Boston- based Executive Director to lead this new and exciting entrepreneurial venture, provide strategic direction, and direct the activities in Rwanda and the United States. We are looking for an Executive Director who works well independently and is excited by the opportunity to visit and work in Rwanda on a regular basis. The Maranyundo Initiative is focused on increasing the number of girls in Rwanda who successfully enroll and complete secondary school, and go on to some form of higher education. The Maranyundo School, opening in January 2008, will be an independent boarding school for top female students, located in the Bugesera District, one of the hardest hit regions during Rwanda's genocide in 1994 and one of the poorest regions in the country. The school will prepare its students to become leaders in their chosen professions and support them in their path toward this goal. It will also offer community education programs including English language classes and computer training when school is not in session. The Maranyundo School is under construction and will open for classes in January of 2008. The Teacher Training Program will be part of the initiative and is being created in response to great national need to increase the number of quality teachers in Rwanda. The program will be jointly developed by the new Executive Director and the Rwandan-American board, in collaboration with key educators in both countries. The Executive Director will run the Maranyundo Initiative organization, provide strategic direction, and oversee the activities in Rwanda and the U.S. He or she will report to an active Board of Directors and will be responsible for working collaboratively with constituencies in Rwanda and the US, forging new partnerships as necessary, and ensuring the Maranyundo Initiative is meeting its goals of enriching and improving education for girls in Rwanda, and helping expand the country's pool of talented, capable women.
