[Hidden-tech] Mac behaving strangely

Hello all,

I think that there are good knowledgeable people here who might be
able to answer this basic question. My Powerbook G4 of three years
life has started doing things I've never seen before:

Mail and Safari crashing, other programs crashing requiring a Force
Quit - including the other day the FInder.
Menu bar in PowerPoint not being accessible because it seems to be
off the screen (I use a desktop monitor hooked up to the PB)
Programs taking forever to wake up.

These are all new behaviors.

Recently I downloaded Quicksilver (due to comments on this list) - is
it intruding on processes? The test of turning it off and then
running my mac still produces behaviors as above.
OR

drum roll.. is this the early warning signs of hard disk failure?

I've also downloaded recently:

CRM4MAC
Merlin (project management software)
iBank
EasyDraw

but none of these programs are "on" when I get the above behaviors.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Annamarie
