[Hidden-tech] Video editing software?

Hi all...

I have a DVD recording of a workshop I did. I 
would like to be able to take it off the DVD and 
do some minor editing... add a lead in and lead 
out... then re-record to DVD or even better 
stream it from my web site or make it an online product  (streaming? download?)

I'd also like to take vignettes from it to use 
for promo videos on my web site.... so I need to 
clip from the video and save to an appropriate format.

I know how to do basic stuff like this with 
audio. Can it be done on video, especially with freeware of some sort?
