Michael; Sounds like Marcia's got some good suggestions about satellite, and possibly WiFi from a shared T-1, like the library's. (If you're anywhere near the library, I've learned it's easier than you think to use yagi antennas and get pretty good range on WiFi. Contrary to popular consensus, both trees and distances up to a half mile, or more --but usually not both-- can be overcomable.) Another possibility, as Jonathan suggests, is getting EVDO or CDMA signals from Verizon Wireless. And again, yagi antennas can be the key, together with a repeater-amplifier. And probably the use of a mast to get your antenna up high. I've had considerable success increasing cell-phone coverage in a difficult building. And the same tools and techniques apply. But it may be that getting equipment to give you help at the frequencies used by EVDO may be problematic. (Look up and call support at http://www.wilsonelectronics.com where they can be quite helpful.) Also, feel free to contact me off list for further thoughts. Which I'd enjoy sharing. Good luck. Help! I'm moving from Easthampton (where I have lickity-split 3 meg Broadband service) up to Goshen, just about 2 miles from the Border with Williamsburg. OK, OK, not anywhere near "the sticks", but millions of miles away from current technology it seems. Does anyone know what Options I have for anything faster than POTS Dial-up? I've spoken with Verizon, and they tell me DSL is too far away. Goshen has no cable. Is there anyone on this list living in the "Hills " who has found a good solution? I will have satellite for TV, but it's pretty unreliable. There are some trees (that I don't own, and can't chop) blocking my View of the southern sky. The Sat reception is pretty spotty, especially on windy or rainy days... not sure how good Satellite Internet would work. I am going to go CRAZY trying to live with 56k after having High speed for so long. Thanks for your help, Mike Duquette _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
