Managing Director
Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy & the PJ Library:
Initiatives of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation
Springfield, Massachusetts

BACKGROUND
In 1993 real estate entrepreneur Harold Grinspoon established the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (the “HGF”). The HGF’s mission is “to enhance the vibrancy of Jewish life in Western Massachusetts and beyond through education and experiences that impart the knowledge and values of our heritage and the joy of being Jewish.” The HGF has focused on funding and developing initiatives locally that can serve as models for replication by philanthropists in other communities. In addition, the HGF is funding programs that have a large scale national impact and that benefit Jewish life abroad, particularly in Israel.

The HGF is looking for a managing director to run two young HGF initiatives: The Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy and the PJ Library.

The Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy
Since its establishment in 2004 The Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy (the “Institute”) has guided and supported over 30 organizations to become more successful and sustainable institutions. The Institute’s major focus is on Jewish overnight camps, which are in significant need. The Institute has developed a successful model to fund the cost of experienced coaches and mentors to work with the lay boards and professional staff of supported organizations on the following:

To collaborate, coach and advise lay boards on strategic planning and governance.
To ignite the capabilities of the institutions to raise capital to meet and exceed their operational and facility needs.
To provide the know-how and technology tools to build up their capability and expertise in growing their alumni and constituency base.
The Institute has recently launched a revolutionary concept in its design of a new matching grant program. This first ever $3,000,000 “Meet Your Match” program is available to Jewish camps that participate in the Institute and is igniting board development and fundraising at these camps to a new level. The Institute has taken full responsibility to roll-out this program, support the camps in creating and executing a strategy to maximize the program and administrate the program.

The PJ Library
The mission of the PJ Library is to bring “Yiddishkeit” into the homes of young families through the reading of Jewish books to young children. Everyone agrees that reading books to young children is important; why not include Jewish children’s books? The HGF currently is sending free age-appropriate Jewish children’s books (and music CDs) to families with young children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years in Western Massachusetts every month for a year (and for a nominal fee thereafter). As of this date, over 500 children have signed up. The vision is that by creating an intimate experience between parent and child in reading books with Jewish themes the families will be motivated to engage in their Jewish community. Various communities have expressed an interest in bringing the PJ Library to their regions, and our goal is to work with funders throughout North America to expand this initiative to every community. In addition, we are exploring the expansion of the
PJ Library into older age groups, both in Western Massachusetts and with partner communities.
