[Hidden-tech] External Drive ?

Mark,

There is an extended discussion on Macintouch.com (the best site for mac
power users) on external FW drive failures. One of the first tests is to
take the same drive and attach it to another Mac running Panther, not Tiger.
Secondly, attach it to a Mac running OS 9. In some cases, FW drives which
have become unusable on OS X are perfectly fine under OS 9.

Second, there is a large file corruption issue with Spotlight¹s background
indexing. Though this may not affect you since most of your files are not in
the GB size range where this problem is most evident, try turning Spotlight
off for the time being.
