Hi All,

Apologies for the delay in posting the results of the https://forms.gle/F5iB99THRxzdJqhM6. I continued my now multi-month hobby of contending with such a continuous series of breakdowns at work and home that I picture some lower level Greek god in charge of domestic chaos who, in a clown suit, got drunk and his face fell on the repeat key. For example, a major power outage with multi-transformer explosions in Greenfield (from solar flare CME?) fried my network, and, unrelated, my furnace pilot light system failed. Will post survey results by next week latest.

If anyone near Greenfield is intermediate+ with Ubiquiti routers, switches, and wireless, I’d pay you to complete the setup of my replacement EdgeRouter-X. 

A few things I learned which may help others:

It’s really worth auditing surge protectors, which expire in 3-5 years, and even new they have wide variance in specs and thus effectiveness. Best value I found: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HHDS2DR.


Beyond network hardware, I discovered that my great 1990s stereo amp's few breakdowns were likely caused by power surges blowing through a spent surge protector. 



ChatGPT helped me fix my 1965 American Standard gas furnace, failing only to understand the original pilot light burner because the whole web has little or nothing about that old but durable part. If by some fluke any of you have such a renowned bullet-proof furnace, I'll send you a ChatGPT thread that will save you time/$.


ChatGPT seems capable of guiding me in network setup, but a pro would still be more efficient. ChatGPT did show me that my last pro made a mistake in the setup.)
