Deb,

Your best bet is to wipe (format) the entire drive and reload the OS. Not 100% secure but the average person won’t get in. The G4 is so old it won’t be useful to anyone. Take the hard drive and smash it against the ground a few times, then recycle.

Subject: [Hidden-tech] * * * Cleaning off a harddrive * * *

Hi folks,

Could someone guide me on the best way to clear personal data off a computer, but leave software on there? I have a MacPro desktop computer and a G4 desktop that I want to give away, and need to clear my files off beforehand, this week ideally.

Thanks,
Deb
