Tim, your main quest was for qualified advice about Tax Relief programs and SS in retirement. My comments are about "Very few of my clients ask for 1099." I'm not an authority on it, but my impressions are these: * Clients wouldn't necessarily ask *you* for 1099s; it's that some of your clients are obliged to provide them *to you*. * Clients that are business entities are obligated to provide them *to you* if they paid you more than $xxx ($600?) in a particular tax year. * If you bring on other carpenters that you treat as independent contractors (because they qualify as such), and you pay them more than $xxx, then you're obliged to provide them with a 1099 (whether they ask for it or not). Regarding optimizing social security in retirement: * I believe that for your payments into SS during your working years, you base your payment on all your Schedule C income (with or without 1099 documentation).
