Since you mention adding hundreds of pictures, I would also ask for the
transfer speed of the thumb drive. It's not a matter of USB 2.0 vs 3.0.
Some are quite fast (up to 300 MB/s) while some are achingly slow (4-5
MB/s). Each drive has a fast initial cache, but once that is exhausted in a
larger copy procedure, the transfer rate will go down to whatever the media
can handle.
