Publications I have worked with in the past have used SmugMug and always had a good experience. You can create folders of photos (with watermarks) and customers can purchase photographs individually (at which point the watermark will be removed). I have not had a personal account with SmugMug, so can't comment on the logistics, but it seems worth looking into.
