[Hidden-tech] Looking for advice about carriers for mobile phone

Have you looked into Credo Mobile? Used to be Working Assets in the '80s. After Sprint's customer service devolved into pathetic, I switched back to Credo after many years away. It's probably not the least expensive option, but they donate a % to progressive causes. They have several different plans listed on their website. Pretty sure they piggyback on a major carrier. I have no complaints about their coverage, and their customer people are ridiculously, wonderfully helpful.~)
