[Hidden-tech] large screen for watching movies on Netflix?

You haven't said what kind of laptop you have, but I gather it is 
connected to the router through an ethernet cable.

To send the computer screen video to a TV you need to connect the laptop 
directly to the TV with an HDMI cable, not ethernet.

Ethernet carries network data, not video signals.

To send video to the TV over ethernet, you need two things:

1) Software on the laptop to convert the video signal and transmit it 
over the network.  Windows 10 and Android have that capability built in, 
Apple does not without extra hardware.

2) A computer at the TV end that can read the data from the network and 
convert it back to a video signal the TV can display.

A smart TV is a TV with the computer to do that conversion built in. 
Roku is a computer designed to do that with any TV.

If you want to connect your laptop to a TV through ethernet, you would 
need a Roku Ultra, which has an ethernet port, or a smart TV with a 
built in ethernet port.
