Zoom works fairly flawlessly and I feel is certainly worth the $15/mo price tag. I'm sure many people will sign up and perhaps when the crises is over probably half will cancel.

Hangouts works well for smaller groups, though it's confusing in that there's a company-level Hangout, and a personal Chrome Hangouts, which is a Chrome Extension.

Skype is also good for smaller groups, and is a Microsoft product.

For Mac-based people, there's Facetime, also for smaller groups. This is free and works on phones, tablets, and Mac laptops.

My experience. Your mileage will probably vary.

In the current climate, organizations are doing more virtual meetings. Because the length of our meetings tends to be more than 40 minutes, using Zoom for me would require a paid subscription; the next level above "Free" is $15/month. Someone suggested Google Hangouts. Is there also a threshold between free and paid? If there is, what is the basis? Number of participants, duration of conference, etc.? What's your experience? 

 

Thanks for any info. Private response is OK, although perhaps other Hidden-Techies are facing the same type of choice.
