A single license of Google G Suite is cheap and may do all you need via it's Google Meet. Comes with much more besides.

Hi Shel,

I'm signed up for an online conference in a couple weeks where the organizers are using Nextcloud and wrote the following;

Why we aren't using Zoom:
You may be wondering why we are essentially asking you to learn a new system and not use Zoom, which most of us are familiar with especially over the past few months. There are two main issues with Zoom - first, it recently had some critical security breaches; second and more importantly, Zoom made false claims about it's privacy and security features which calls their integrity into question.

The Nextcloud Platform includes:
• integrations for document creation and sharing
•       video and photo sharing
•       social sharing
• online meeting platform (thru Big Blue Button)
•       and more…

Privacy is maintained on Nextcloud through “sharing”. When you upload something to your account or create a document, you must choose to share it and who with: the whole group,just one person, or a new group you create. This is true each time, there is no automatic sharing.

Hi, folks,

A not-for-profit I'm involved with is planning a series of three speakers that might draw a few hundred people each (or might not). My Zoom account doesn't include webinar features and caps out at 100 seats. What are some good alternatives, either no-cost or minimal cost? I'm also open to exploring how to broadcast a Zoom call over a higher-capacity system such as Facebook Live. I've been on some calls that were cast to both at the same time, so I know it's possible, but I don't know if the signal gets degraded.

Ideally, it would allow chat for early attenders, switch chat off during the presentation, and perhaps turn it back on at the end, enforce preregistration, bump off anyone who disrupts or hijacks the call, and allow for recording and individual viewing later.

Many thanks,

Shel Horowitz - "The Transformpreneur"
