If I can indulge in some out-of-box thinking... 1. If your giftee is local, consider a Northampton gift card, available at the Chamber on Pleasant Street. Keeps money circulating through small merchants in the local economy, which is a great benefit as retailers struggle with staying afloat while amazon is snapping up half the country's shopping dollars. If the person is not local, consider checking if their local Chamber has a similar program/ 2. Some of the big chain stores including I believe Best Buy (still in Holyoke AFAIK, but no longer in Hadley) and Target sell gift carts to various chain merchants. Maybe they would sell a VISA gift card. 3. I have received VISA or MC gift cards that had a fixed dollar limit. You might try talking to your cc merchant provider since your bank said no. Or talk to a commercial bank. 4. You could also transfer funds via Paypal (friends and family--no fee), which might be easier and is pretty darn usable. Good luck, and please let us know what your solution turns out to be.
